Nine workers were injured after a bakkie left the roadway and plunged down an embankment along Algoa Road in Uitenhage this morning at around 08h26. A report from the scene indicates that the vehicle veered off the road and came to rest about a 150 meters into the bush after ejecting the occupants. Exact detail to the cause of the accident however will remain a subject for police comment.
Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene and after triaging found that one person had sustained critical injuries, five was in a serious condition while three escaped with relatively minor injuries. Paramedics and the emergency services worked tirelessly to stabilise the injured at the scene , after they were immobilised medics had to carry them up to the roadway.
The critically injured patient was airlifted to hospital while the other patients were transported by ambulance to various hospitals for the care that they required.
