PORT ELIZABETH - POLICE ARRESTED 21 ALLEGED GANGSTERS SINCE BEGINNING OF DECEMBER

Eastern Cape police say measures to curtail gangsterism in the northern areas of Port Elizabeth are paying off.

Twenty-one alleged gangsters have been nabbed since the beginning of December.

A 19-year-old man, who was arrested yesterday, will appear in court tomorrow on three counts of attempted murder.

Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the suspect is alleged to have shot at three people in the early hours of New Year's Day.

“The three incidents occurred in sequence on the same day. On Wednesday, 6 January, the suspects were arrested by the visible gang intervention team in Gelvandale. He has been linked to all three incidents of attempted murder.”

Naidu says another alleged gangster, 26-year-old Sasha Ferreira, appeared in court yesterday.

She adds Ferreira faces two charges of attempted murder following a shoot-out with police in November.

“Sasha Ferreira will appear in court again on 13 January for his formal bail application.”
