Two Port Alfred detectives appeared in the local magistrates’ court earlier today on charges of defeating the ends of justice and perjury. Detective Constables Luyanda Tambo (34) and Abongile Gcaba (29) were arrested on Friday night in a sting operation in Port Alfred.After spending the weekend in custody, the two appeared separately and each was released on R1 000 bail with various conditions. Magistrate Xolile Dlulisa instructed them not to communicate or get into contact with any of the witnesses in the matter; not to interfere with the investigation and not to commit other offences or fail to appear in court. The case was postponed until 13 July 2016 for further investigation and for the decision of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
