UITENHAGE - PROTEST ACTION SEES TYRES SET ALIGHT AND ROADS BLOCKED IN KAMESH

Protesters set tyres alight and blocked roads in Kamesh, Uitenhage, on Friday, Eastern Cape police said.

“I would not say it is taxi violence, but there is a protest going on,” Captain Gerda Swart said.

There had been no reports of violence.

The Eastern Cape education department urged school principals to reschedule tests if they were affected by a province-wide taxi strike on Friday, AlgoaFM reported.

Police were monitoring the area.
