GRAHAMSTOWN - STOCK THIEVES ARRESTED AFTER HIGH SPEED CHASE TOWARDS PORT ELIZABETH

At approximately 21:50 Saturday night, members of the Grahamstown Highway Patrol were conducting a vehicle check point on the N2 when they tried to stop an open bakkie that was travelling towards Port Elizabeth. The driver drove off and the members gave chase.

Whilst the vehicle was still in motion, two male occupants who were at the back jumped off and ran into the bushes. The members managed to stop the vehicle about 11 kms away in the direction of Port Elizabeth. The driver tried to flee but was unsuccessful. The other two passengers who were in front also tried to escape but could not get out as the vehicle was close to the railings.

During an inspection of the vehicle they discovered 18 sheep, all slaughtered.

The three suspects aged between 40 and 47 were arrested and are facing a charge of possession of suspected stolen stock. The total value of the stock is approximately R 27 000.

Detectives from the Stock Theft were at the scene and will continue with the investigation. The suspects will appear in the Grahamstown Magistrates court shortly.
