EASTERN CAPE - MAN GETS ELECTROCUTED WHILE TRYING TO STEAL ELECTRICAL TRANSFORMER IN KIRKWOOD

A man died of electric shock yesterday while allegedly trying to steal an electrical transformer attached to a pylon in Kirkwood.

The body of Zolani Mteto, 36, was found trapped under a wooden pylon holding the power lines and transformer, at about 7am. Power was blacked out in parts of Kirkwood.

It is three months since the Criminal Matters Amendment Act came into force, with sentences of up to 30 years in prison for damaging essential service infrastructure.

It is believed that Mteto was sawing the pylon when it fell onto him.
