Ballot boxes, with marked ballot papers, were allegedly found in a tent in Nelson Mandela Bay.
The African National Congress has vowed to get to the bottom of just how exactly the ballot boxes ended up there.
The papers, found in a tent at a local Independent Electoral Commission office in Port Elizabeth, were allegedly already captured, according to IEC electoral officer Sy Mamabolo.
The party’s provincial deputy chairperson Sakhumzi Somyo told EWN: “Ballot boxes, after any counting, need to be in a secure place wherein all those who were involved were supposed to accompany them to ensure [they are] at a place of safety.”
ANC Leadership said that they did not know about the seemingly discarded ballot papers.
The papers are believed to be in the custody of officials, Mamabolo said.
