The mayor-elect of Nelson Mandela Bay Metro, Athol Trollip, has told supporters at the Donkin Reserve in Port Elizabeth that the DA will roll-up sleeves and make the metro a better place to live in.
He was accompanied by several candidates who would now probably serve on the new council.
A meeting will be held in two weeks' time before the DA takes over the chairmanship from the ANC.
Trollip is adamant that as mayor he will not tolerate corruption in the administration.
He says his first promise is that the DA will stop corruption.
"I have said that in the DA administration every single staff member who is professional and works hard will be recognised and given due recognition and rewarded. You don't have to be a DA member to get promoted or rewarded. Anybody who helps us achieve our manifesto, change peoples lives and make the city look better and work better, will be recognised and rewarded, regardless of who you are, what language you speak, what colour you are or political affiliation," says Trollip.
