GRAHAMSTOWN - JUSTICE IS SERVED AS COP KILLER GETS CONVICTED

A 32-year-old man pleaded guilty and was convicted of the robbery and murder of Grahamstown policeman, Warrant Officer Albie Julius in the Grahamstown High Court yesterday.

Anthony Swarts, a local painter, admitted to intentionally robbing Warrant Officer Julius (48) of his cellphone and R1 500-00 before stabbing him to death.

Julius' body was found in bushes in Sun City on 6 August 2016, with multiple stab wounds. Swarts is due in court again today for sentencing.

UPDATE - Swarts has just been sentenced to life and 15 years imprisonment in the Grahamstown High Court. In sentencing him today, Judge Nomathamsanqa Beshe said there were no compelling and substantial circumstances to make her deviate from the prescribed minimum sentences.

Members of the gallery, including Warrant Officer Julius' wife and their families, applauded the sentencing.
