PORT ELIZABETH - ALL ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES AT NMMU HAVE BEEN SUSPENDED ON WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY

All academic activities at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University have been suspended on Wednesday and Thursday due to ongoing student protects. The university released the following statement via their website:

Management’s attempts at engaging with students today have proven inconclusive. As such, we do not believe that resuming University operations for the next two days will be a viable option.

All academic activities at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) are therefore suspended for two days, Wednesday 21st and Thursday 22nd September 2016. This will allow management to actively engage with students, especially around the fees statement released by Government. We believe this approach will be less disruptive to all staff and students.

To minimize the impact on the academic and professional support programme, those NMMU staff who are able to work remotely should continue to do so.

Essential services - cleaning, catering, security, Campus Health Services and key technical services – will continue in support of students living in on-campus residences.

The decision to close the University for the next two days was not taken lightly and is part of NMMU’s responsibility towards staff and students.

Acting Vice-Chancellor
