Heavy winds are fanning a number of veld fires around Port Elizabeth.
In one fire in the Chelsea area on the outskirts of the city, residents have watched three buildings on a property go up in flames




Fire fighters in Port Elizabeth have contained raging veld fires that destroyed at least one thatch-roofed house and swept through Kamma Heights and neighbouring suburbs.

Residents in Kamma Heights, Theescomb and Chelsea were evacuated as a precautionary measure.
