UITENHAGE - POLICE CRACKDOWN ON CRIME OVER THE WEEKEND WITH THE ARREST OF 159 CRIMINALS

Several successful operations were conducted over the past weekend and it resulted in the arrest of a total of 159 suspects for various crimes in the Uitenhage Cluster. These arrests included rape, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm, theft out of motor vehicle, housebreaking and theft, theft and the possession of suspected stolen goods.

A total of nine (9) persons were arrested for driving under the influence of liquor.

 A multi-disciplinary roadblock was conducted on Friday, 24 February 2017 on the R75, outside Uitenhage and a total of 174 vehicles were stopped and searched.

A total of 13 fines were issued to the value of R6 850. Members from Kwanobuhle SAPS  pounced on six illegal taverns and confiscated over 28 litres of liquor valued at about R4 550 and also fined them for contravention of the Liquor Act, bringing the total of fines issued to the value of R7 000.

A total of 285 Litres of illegal concoction were destroyed from five brewing houses. A total of 33 traffic fines were also issued, valued at more than R16 500. 10 suspects were detained for the illegal possession of drugs. The reduction of crime in the Uitenhage Cluster will remain a priority.
