Our quest to clamp down on crimes against women and children paid off and the Uitenhage Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ronald Koll has welcomed the life sentence that was handed down to a rape accused in the Graaff-Reinet High Court on Thursday, 28 March 2019.According to testimony, the 14-year-old child was raped multiple times by her stepfather between 2008 and 2010 on a farm in the Wolwefontein area and a case of rape was opened in March 2018. The stepfather was arrested on 5 March 2018 and effectively sentenced to life imprisonment on 28 March 2019.
Brigadier Koll commended the investigating officer and said: “Sentences such as this will send out a stern warning to criminals that SAPS investigators will never rest and they will ensure that cases, such as these ones, are thoroughly investigated to ensure successful convictions”.
