SOUTH AFRICA - CHARGES DROPPED AGAINST KENNETH NKOSI AFTER HE ALLEGEDLY ASSAULTED GIRLFRIEND

Charges of common assault have been dropped against actor and comedian Kenneth Nkosi after spending time behind bars.

On Wednesday Nkosi handed himself over to the police and was charged for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend at the BlackAnt Lounge in Newton, Johannesburg.

He was due to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s court on Thursday.

NPA spokesperson, Phindi Mjonondwane explained to Drum magazine that “Kenneth Nkosi did not appear in court because the NPA refused to enrol the matter as there were no prospects of a successful prosecution”.

Video evidence that was meant to prove that the Nkosi was in the wrong according to IOL “exonerated him from a common assault charge.”

“From what I was told, the story was that he was the one who had assaulted someone but the video showed the opposite. It showed that he was the one who was, in fact, being beaten by some women,” said Mjonondwane to The Star.

The alleged victim Mosidi Motsau according to Drum was unaware that the charges had been dropped.

“I am not aware of any charges being dropped because I do not plan to drop them. As far as I know, he couldn’t appear in court because of a lack of evidence but the police said they were collecting evidence against him and he is currently out on bail,” she told Drum.
