Port Elizabeth police have arrested a 20-year-old suspect in Gelvandale for the alleged shooting of 6-year old Jay-Linn Jantjies on 23 September.Spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu says on that day, the child was on the pavement in front of her house in Kobus Road when shots were fired, hitting her in the head.
She says following intensive investigations, members of the Gelvandale Tracing Team spotted the suspect in Deverill Road on Thursday and a chase ensued.
He was later arrested and was detained on a charge of attempted murder, as well as an unrelated case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and the pointing of a firearm.
Colonel Naidu says little Jay-Linn passed away in hospital on Friday.
The suspect will now appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court on a charge of murder.
