UITENHAGE - TIP OFF LEADS TO THE ARREST OF TEEN WITH STOLEN FIREARM IN CALEDON STREET

Police arrested a 19-year-old man for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition, after information from a resident led to the recovery of a firearm with eight (08) live rounds of ammunition.

On Monday, 30 September 2019 at around 03:50am, it is alleged that Uitenhage police received information that either a driver or passengers of a black VW Polo with a specified registration number was carrying a firearm.  Moments later, police spotted the same vehicle in Caledon Street, Uitenhage and pulled it off the road.  On searching the vehicle and occupants, police found an unlicensed firearm from the driver.  The seized firearm was a Norinco with eight live rounds of ammunition.  A preliminary investigation has revealed that a firearm was stolen in Makhanda (Grahamstown) in March 2019.

Acting Uitenhage Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ronald Koll commended members for their swift response to the information.  Police would like to encourage residents to continue with their good acts of sharing information about criminal activities in their areas.
