EASTERN CAPE - OPERATIONS FIELA NABS CRIMINALS IN PORT ST JOHNS AND SURROUNDING AREAS

Operation Fiela yielded positive results this past weekend in Port St Johns, Lusikisiki and Mtontsasa. The operation started on Wednesday, 16 December 2015 at 09:00 and continued until 18:00 on Saturday evening, 19 December 2015.

225 persons and 73 vehicles were stopped and searched, and four premises were searched. One suspect was arrested for murder and four suspects were arrested for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm. One suspect was arrested for rape. Three suspects were arrested for being in possession of dagga, weighing 5851 kg, with an estimated street value of more than R500 000 and 91 dagga plants were also discovered.  One suspect was arrested for being in possession of an licenced fire with ammunition. One suspect was arrested for being in possession of fake goods (15 DVD’s).

Four persons were arrested for traffic-related offences. Three persons were fined for selling liquor without a licence and all paid admission of guilty fines. Seven persons were fined for drinking in public. The Dangerous Weapons Act was also enforced which led to the confiscation of 12 knives.

Brigadier Nompumelelo Majikijela, Port St Johns Cluster Commander, thanked all the members and officials deployed during the operation. “We will continue to be very visible and conduct more of these operations to both prevent and combat crime throughout the entire Port St Johns. Any inconvenience that may be caused during these operations is meant for the safety of everyone in the area," she concluded.
