A top policeman in Port Elizabeth is being investigated for allegedly using his position to give jobs to his friends.
Trade union Popcru has lodged a complaint with the Eastern Cape police commissioner against Port Elizabeth cluster commander Major-General Dawie Rabie.
The union claims Rabie favoured his friends for promotions to senior posts, while experienced officers were overlooked.
Rabie has been on suspension since July after a domestic violence complaint was lodged against him.
This follows allegations Rabie had abused his family for some time. In one instance last month, he locked them out of their house.
He's being probed by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) for alleged abuse of power, relating to interference in that criminal case.
Popcru claims several officer have complained saying unsuitable colleagues were promoted or hired because they are close to Rabie.
Police have confirmed Eastern Cape Commissioner Liziwe Ntshinga’s office is investigating the allegations.
