GRAHAMSTOWN - RHODES STUDENTS WARN OF CONTINUING PROTESTS

Protesting Rhodes University students have vowed to continue with the disruption of classes after what they label violent police intervention on campus yesterday.

Eleven students have been arrested on charges ranging from malicious damage to property, to the violation of a court order that prohibits them from taking part in protest action on campus.

A video showcasing a student being dragged by police has also surfaced.

Student Representative Council Secretary General Happiness Rasebale says students are angered by the latest turn of events.

“Given that management did not want commit to fighting for fees must fall and join the students, and number two, the fact that students were arrested because of management calling police onto campus, because all of this is happening within campus. Students are really furious about that.”

Via Twitter, university management has availed counselling services to traumatised students.

Management also highlighted its support for the implementation of access to quality higher education for academically deserving students.
