JEFFREYS BAY - 2 TEENS RESCUED AFTER KAYAK CAPSIZES

Reighard Janse van Rensburg, NSRI Jeffreys Bay station commander, said:

At 13h28, Sunday, 12th February, NSRI Jeffreys Bay duty crew were activated following eye-witness reports of two paddlers on a double sea kayak appearing to be in difficulty off-shore of Kitchens Window Restaurant, Jeffreys Bay.

We launched our sea rescue craft Project Group Rescuer and our NSRI Quad Bike and Kouga Municipal lifeguards responded.

On arrival on the scene lifeguards, using Malibu Rescue Boards, paddled out to the two teenagers and took both teenagers, who were found in the water, onto their Malibu Rescue Boards and on the sea rescue craft arrival on the scene both teenagers were transferred onto the sea rescue craft and their sea kayak was recovered and they were brought to shore safely without incident and they were not injured.

It appears that their sea kayak may have been bumped by a sea animal causing them to capsize.
