PORT ELIZABETH - 7 PEOPLE INJURED AFTER MOUNT ROAD POLICE STATION ELEVATOR MALFUNCTION

 It was reported that today at about 16:00 the elevator at Mount Road police station plunged from the 4th floor to the ground floor with seven occupants in the lift at the time of the incident.

Six female employees and one male employee were injured. Four sustained fractured legs while the others were treated for various other injuries. The injured members were stabilised by emergency services on the scene.

They were transported to St Georges Hospital for further medical treatment.

The Public Works Department has been informed of the incident. The Provincial Commissioner of the Eastern Cape, Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga wishes the injured employees a speedy recovery. She also indicated that a thorough investigation will be conducted into the incident.
