PORT ELIZABETH - HUMEWOOD POLICE SEEK VICTIMS OF GUMTREE FRAUDSTER

Humewood detectives are seeking victims of the undermentioned modus operandi relating to fraud.
It is alleged that the alleged fraudster advertised his services on Gumtree and OLX that he builds and repairs trailers (cattle and horse trailers included). He was contacted by clients who requested a quote from him. As soon as the client accepted the quote, a deposit is paid into the account. The suspect would then constantly require money from his clients and once he receives the money, he ignores the clients.  Three cases of fraud involving the same suspect was opened at Humewood, Walmer and Mount Road police stations.
The complainants also went to his place of work but could not find him.  It is further alleged that the suspect may have duped clients in the Western and Northern Cape as well.
On Wednesday 6 February 2019, Malcolm Miles Leonard (57) was arrested at his residence in Kabega Park and appeared in court the following day on charges of fraud. He was released on R1000 bail. The case has been remanded until the 2019-04-24.
Police suspect that there may be more victims who never reported their cases. Anyone who may have fallen victims to Leonard’s scam is asked to contact D/ W/ O Hannelie Greyling on 041 5045058 or 082 090 9655.
