Members of South African Police Service SAPS, in efforts to curb the prevalence of livestock theft, conducted an Intelligence driven operation and prevented the theft of stock. The Lady Visible Policing, (Vispol) and the Stock Theft Unit acted swiftly on intelligence about suspects in the process of stealing livestock from a farm in the Lady Grey District.
The positive information led members to the farm, where they caught the three suspects, ages between 30 and 37, red-handed- with eight sheeps tied with a rope.
The SAPS members questioned the suspects about the activity taking place, however the suspects could not afford a plausible explanation.
The three suspects were arrested and are detained at the Lady Grey holding cells, awaiting their court appearance on Monday, 24 September 2019. A Bakkie believed to belong to the suspect has been booked as part of the evidence gathered against the suspects.
The Aliwal North Acting Cluster Commander, Col Mpho Rabele, congratulated the members involved in the operation. He applauded their tenacity and ensuring that information received led to a successful arrest. Colonel Rabela further encouraged members of the community to support the SAPS in the endeavors of fighting crime.
