Police in Port Elizabeth have opened up an inquest after the body of an unknown man was found burnt beyond recognition in a building in Newton Park.

Police Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says Atlas security was busy patrolling the area when they noticed smoke coming from a building in 7th avenue.
She says they alerted the fire brigade who managed to extinguish the flames.
Colonel Naidu says upon further investigation the body of a man was found inside.
She says the building is used for refuge and it is suspected that the victim might have been a vagrant who was sleeping there.
