EASTERN CAPE - SUSPECT ARRESTED FOR FRAUDULENTLY BEING AWARDED CONSTRUCTION CONTRACTS WORTH MORE THAN R87 MILLION

According to the information, the suspect had submitted false documents to the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) between 05 August 2014 and 04 April 2016 respectively. 

The suspect, who is believed to be a Director of the Lihle Nathi Property Construction, is alleged to have misled the Alfred Nzo District Municipality into believing that the documents submitted were authentic and belonged to him whereas he had obtained them by fraudulent means.

Subsequently, the Alfred Nzo District Municipality awarded the suspect two contracts to the value of R87 977 215-99 in total. 

After a rigorous and meticulous process of the investigation by capable detectives, the Director of Public Prosecutions decided that the suspect be charged and subjected to prosecution.

The suspect was sought by the police in Durban and in various places including his home in Mt Frere over the weekend, until he was arrested in the early hours of Monday, 03 August 2020 in Mount Ayliff.

The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga has hailed the work of the integrated team of investigators and operational members who demonstrated determination and zeal in ensuring that corruption and corrupt elements are removed from the loyal and responsible citizenry, to find their place behind bars. 

“This arrest must serve as a great lesson to those who are hell bent on pocketing the public purse, that the carpet is being pulled from the unscrupulous and unethical individuals who lack integrity,” Lieutenant General Ntshinga concluded.  

The 36-year-old suspect is expected in the Mount Ayliff Magistrate Court on Monday, 03 August 2020 on Fraud related charges
